July 18, 2008
Roundtable Discussion Saturday, July 19, 1 - 2:30 p.m.

You are invited to help shape the history of a people. Come to a forum this Saturday, July 19, and give your input on the 500-million-dollar National Museum of African American History and Culture, scheduled to open in 2015 on a five acre site beside the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C.
United Negro College Fund President & CEO and National Black Arts Festival Board Member Michael Lomax will lead the forum this Saturday from 1p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Auburn Avenue Research Library, along with Kinshasha Holman Conwill, the deputy director of the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Roundtable: Developing the National Museum of African American History and Culture: A Discussion Forum is part of the National Black Arts Festival Day of Arts and Ideas at the Auburn Avenue Research Library 101 Auburn Ave., NE, Atlanta, GA 3rd Floor. Artists, scholars, activists and audiences will engage in symposia, performance and dialogue around topics dealing with the art and artists of the African Diaspora.
What kinds of exhibitions and collections would you like to see? What issues and periods of history should the museum cover? Those are the topics to be discussed during the roundtable.

The National Museum of African American History and Culture was established in 2003 by an Act of Congress, making it the 19th Smithsonian Institution museum. It is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, art, history and culture. The Smithsonian Board of Regents, the governing body of the Institution, voted in Jan. 2006 to build the museum on a 5-acre site on the National Mall. The Constitution Avenue site is adjacent to the Washington Monument and across the street from the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. For more information about the Museum, please visit www.nmaahc.si.edu or call Smithsonian information at (202) 633-1000, (202) 633-5285 (TTY).
